A biopsy is the extraction of a specific fluid or tissue sample from a living organism for examination under a microscope.

It is performed when problematic areas are detected during physical examination, as a result of certain laboratory tests, or in radiological examinations (suspected cancer?).

Its purpose is for diagnosis, not treatment. Therefore, the collected fluid or tissue sample is always sent to the pathology laboratory under appropriate conditions.
